Sixty-six guests from Lions Bowraville, Nambucca Heads, Valla and Urunga joined the celebrations as did members from Macksville Rotary and past Lions members and their partners.
The night also saw the change of the guard, inducted by Lions District Governor John Davies, who also presented Lion Bob Locke with a Melville Jones Fellow Award for his service over the years.
Bob joined the club on April 1, 1986 and has held most positions including secretary and treasurer. In 1989 he served as president, during which time the club lead the way on the Mid North Coast in welcoming its first female members.
At Saturday’s dinner, Bob, together with the ladies first inducted back in 1989, recreated that first official photo as Lions.
The anniversary cake was cut by Lion Garry Ferris, who joined in 1979, and Ruth Grace from Bowraville Lions, who’s late husband Brian played an influential role helping Ken Mills establish Macksville Lions. During the evening Macksville Lions also donated a cheque to the Cancer Support Group from fundraising during the year.
As a special memento of the night, President Jeanette Welsh gifted members a special anniversary coffee mug to mark the occasion and thanked members for their efforts over the years.
