The Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, said under the program, partnerships would work together to empower and educate communities to prevent and reduce the harm of alcohol and other drugs in the community.
He congratulated the Gumbaynggirr Local Drug Action Team, Gumbynggirr and Youth Local Drug Action Team and the Nambucca Heads Youth Wellbeing Partnership who are new LDATs in the region.
Each of the new LDATs will receive an initial $10,000 in funding to help develop a local Community Action Plan.
Those groups can then apply for additional funding to help deliver targeted, local projects, with support from the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.
The Macleay Valley Community Drug Action Team in Kempsey will also receive $10,000 under this phase.
“I’m pleased that people from the Mid North Coast are working together to tackle the devastating impact of alcohol and drugs – including ice,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
“The teams will deliver local health prevention activities, including education, mentoring and support for vulnerable people to minimise their risk of alcohol and other drug-related harms.
“This is why the roll-out of additional Local Drug Action Teams is so important for the strength, health and well-being of our community, now and into the future.”
