At Nambucca High School Year 11 students have been learning about this movement in an unusual and exciting way … by actually appropriating art.
Head Art teacher, Angela Bagardo, said the appropriation gave works new meaning and students had enthusiastically taken it on board.
“The students were pretty ambitious – they took on 13 different artworks, including Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and works by Picasso and Frida Kahlo,” Angela said.
“We’ve been teaching this unit like this for the last eight years … the kids really engage with the artwork when they approach it in this way.”
“They chose pivotal moments in art history … they had to paint the back drops and then each other for our ‘exhibition’ (on May 18).
“It was a lot of work and a lot of painting but they pulled it together and it worked really well.”
