Constructed from recycled Nambucca Valley hardwood, the tables hark back to the town’s cedar-getting days and a rugged history flows through its wood grains no doubt.
Keen to keep the constructions, as well as the materials local, Macksville Lions commissioned the Men’s Shed of Macksville to install another wooded table with seating in the park, which enjoys river views.
Lions members said the hardwood of the tables stands to symbolise the strength and durability of Lions International as well as the organisation’s commitment to sustainable living.
Plans for the table started last year, on the 100 year anniversary since Lions International was founded. The offical unveiling was performed by the Lions District Governor in April 9, 2018.
The table has a small plaque to Debbie Barrie the sister of Lion Lorraine Hemsworth. Debbie who passed away this January was one of our most valued Lion’s volunteers.
Prior to the unveiling members, family and friends attended and enjoyed morning tea overlooking the river prior to the unveiling.
Macksville Lions Club will celebrate 40 years since the club was formed with an anniversary dinner on June 9 at the Macksville Ex-Services Club from 6pm. Cost is $30 per person. RSVP by June 2 to Jeanette Welsh on 6569 6155 or 0407 916 000. Past members are very welcome.
