EXPECTATIONS were high for Nambucca’s 3rd Division North Coast Football team to make a statement and follow on from last week’s excellent game with a strong showing against “the team south of the bridge”, Macksville Stingers.

Confidence was up too, The Strikers were hungry for a win.
Macksville started the better and took a two-goal advantage before Nambucca got into gear with some possession, and threatened the Stingers goal.
But Macksville regathered and took advantage of some lazy defensive marking through the mids.
Against the run of play, Nambucca hit back from an inch perfect corner from the stylish left boot of Tom Barbour. The ball found the noggin of Riley Hayden to get one back and give the Strikers a ray of hope but that’s how it stayed till the end of the half.
Nambucca tried hard after the break until their heads went down. They coughed up possession too easily, and they were walking with only a few showing the fight and tenacity needed when a side is battling. Without Ben Honeybrook in between the sticks, who saved plenty of goals, the score could’ve been much worse.
For all that, the Stingers smacked in five more as the scoreline blew out in favour of the home side who kept running hard and pressing the Strikers box.
This Strikers team are a young side, full of individual brilliance, but need to apply themselves with application for a full game.
