Also playing good golf in recent weeks have been Denys Tobin and Ken Marriott, who both featured in the prize pool again this week.
Denys (12 handicap) had 37 points to be runner-up in A grade while Ken (13) again won B grade with 39 point. It’s been suggested they may have their own three-hole course out on the farm and get plenty of practise. Following Ken in B grade was Paul Ryan (13) with 37 points.
Winner in C grade was Don Atkinson after a long dry spell that had seen him drift out in handicap to 35. Must be the new gold plated golf buggy that has made a difference. Same with the runner-up, Roy Simms (28), a new buggy and a round of 39 points.
Ball rundown went to 31 points with just the three to collect: Robert Crouch, Andrew McKinnon, and Chris Thorndike.
Kay McGoldrick stole the day with a hole-in-one at the 13th pizza hole. On Friday night she received a pizza courtesy of sponsor Steve Ward from Pizza This Pizza That, in the shape of a green covered with a green topping, a flag stick and hole. Well done, Kay. Other pins for the round went to Stu Johnston at the 3rd and 7th holes, Greg McCoy at the 5th, Ken Marriott at 8 and Tim Standing at 15. Unfortunately the winner of the money shot had not contributed so no money shot given out.
On Saturday, 82 played with approximately 10 drop outs due mainly to the weather early in the morning. Having a day to feel good about was Col Wormleaton (9) with a smallish score of 33 to win A grade and he topped it off with a win at 18 to get the money shot.
Dropping a shot on his handicap to 11 did not deter Denys Tobin as he also produced a round of 33 to be runner-up for the grade. Trevor Hopkins (16) took out B grade with 36 points from Robert Reid (18) 34 points. For C grade Aart Hookkaas (33) racked up 37 points to win and keep his form running, while Don Atkinson again showed it wasn't a flash in the pan as he carded 36 points. Balls in the rundown went to 31 with Terry Coelli, Peter Moxon, and Philip Mander all collecting.
Pins went to Garry Tierney, Terry Coelli, Warren Fuller, Bruce Berry, Graeme Weary took the pizza, and Phil Frost. Nice aside was one of the lucky winners at the 5th Nambucca Newsagents sponsored hole picked up a little bonus with a win with his lottery ticket.
This Saturday will be a stroke round playing for the monthly medal sponsored by Nambucca Liquor.
The following week the club has a fully sponsored day with extra pick ups at most par threes, balls allocated to each grade with longest and straightest drives, as well front and back nine best score to be won.
On Sunday, June 10, the course will host the the qualifier round for a chance to play in the NSW Open. As well, two players over the age of 50 can qualify for a chance at the men’s senior tournament.
On top of that the best nett score has the chance to take a couple of mates along to the NSW Pro Am in November.
