The first half was push and shove, and even, though the Stingers went to the break two-nil to the good.
Nambucca started promisingly on the resumption, but the Stingers held tight, before launching a counter-assault that saw five more in the string.
The Stingers had speed on the flanks, and willing bodies in the mids. Brodie Bartlett in limited time menaced for the reds while BJ Melouney was quicksilver on the right.
The Strikers finally got a goal from a smart header to open their account, and give return for effort.
But there was no question who carried the bragging rights of the derby.
