And perhaps they’re also ahead of the game too.
While much has been written about the endorphin-releasing health benefits of singing, new research has emerged in the last few years that group singing is also significant in forging lasting social bonds.
In fact when the Royal Society of Science compared it to other leisure activities like crafting or creative writing, it was proven that “singers experience a greater increase in both self-reported closeness to their group and positive affect”.
In an increasingly fractured world, rife with digital communications, and a drastic decrease in face-to-face interactions, this revelation could be key to building stronger communities.
The Singers are currently polishing their harmonies for their upcoming concert, ‘Together in Song’, which alludes to this secret they’ve all been in on for a while.
They invite you to join them in this uplifting experience this Sunday when they will lend voice to the masters of composition – Handel, Mozart, Vivaldi, Bach – in one of the most aurally-expansive spaces in the Valley, the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, at 4 Mann St, Nambucca Heads.
It starts at 2pm, with all tickets $15 on the door.
A portion of the proceeds from the concert will be generously donated to the restoration of the Christ The King Church at Taylors Arm.
“This is one of the toughest repertoires the Singers have ever attempted. But it’s sounding just glorious,” choir conductor Lissa Argue said.
Make sure you save the date as there’s only one opportunity to hear the best voices in the Valley sing these truly elevating melodies.
If this article has piqued your interest and you would like to board the HMAS ‘friendship’, then you are more than welcome to join the Bowraville Theatre Singers on Tuesday afternoons from 5-7pm at the Macksville Public School hall.
And rumour has it that their next showcase will be an homage to the musical king himself, Andrew Lloyd Webber.
