On arguably the biggest pitch in the league, the game ebbed and flowed as both teams struggled to string together meaningful passages and dominate possession in their opponent’s half.
Anna Champion was full of energy, offering assistance to Charlotte Williams in attack one minute, then helping the defence clear the lines the next. Cheree Chapman again led a defiant backline, giving Carly Smith a relatively carefree game in goals.
The Strikers had many midfield options available and they were rotated throughout the match to good effect as each player clocked up the kilometres. Terry White and Ella Lewis complemented each other well in their roles while Sam Walsh, Zara Pastega and Simone Jordan were at their reliable best.
In fact it was Pastega who would provide the assist for the sole goal of the match. Her corner was well delivered and the ensuing scramble in the box saw Williams react quickest to nab the winner in the 80th minute.
A great result for the girls, who will next take on Macksville Stingers in the local derby at Coronation Park, kick off 1pm Saturday.
