376 lots comprising a variety of new and second hand property from all over the region will go under the hammer. There are no reserve prices meaning the highest bidder takes ownership, and everything must go.
Among the sale items are 70 brand name bicycles, nine motorbikes, quality tools, fishing gear, jewellery, watches, stainless steel kitchenware, dinner sets, toiletries and electronics such as portable stereos and a 55 inch television still in the box.
The goods have landed in police hands for a variety of reasons. Some items were confiscated during searches and raids or forfeited because they were acquired using the proceeds of crime, and others are simply unclaimed lost and found.
Police inspector Stuart Campbell extended an open invitation to bargain hunters.
“There’s always a bargain to be had, so come on down and have a bid,” he said.
Easy Mike Lonie from Auctions Easy North Coast said if there’s something you need and you know what you’re looking for, you can pick up some great deals.
“I’ve seen people buy $3500 items for $300,” he said.
“In particular, with the new stuff, you can buy it with confidence because it’s brand new, packaged, never opened, so as a buyer you can set your own value.”
“You can buy for what you’re prepared to pay and you get a new item – there’s no grey areas.
“You buy yourself a Mach 3 Gillette razor in the box and you know it’s brand-spanking-new, and you know what they’re worth in the supermarket, so you can bid accordingly.
“At the end of the day, it’s all unreserved and it has to be sold.
“I’m not taking anything home and the police aren’t taking anything home, so it’s got to go.”
A catalogue listing the auction items and their corresponding lot number will be available on Sunday morning.
Viewing commences at 9am with bidding to get underway at 10.30am.
The auction is expected to take roughly three-and-a-half hours.
Purchases can be made via cash or cheque only. There is no Eftpos.
Auction proceeds go towards consolidated revenue.
