The Ghosts have been the benchmark over the past couple of seasons, even before the return of their local junior and ex-NRL star Danny Wicks.
Macksville competed well in the first grade game but were not able to get the win with the Ghosts taking the game 28 points to 16. The reserve grade saw the Sea Eagles victorious by scoring 38 unanswered points and the Under 18s were too classy, getting up 34 points to 12. The League Tag saw the Ghosts best the Sea Eagles by 34 points.
On the back of another strong performance by captain Jordan Moore, the Under 18s played entertaining football and produced a controlled second half. The Sea Eagles congratulate Jordan on his recent selection in the NSW Country Rugby League Under 18s team.
Reserve grade saw a clinical Macksville entertain the crowd with a couple of old stagers leading the way. Forming their own bruise brothers, with over 200kg up front, and more than 70 combined years, Jason Rolff and Darran Dutton paved the way for some scintillating football from the faster, and much younger, boys out the back. Dutton got off the flash for 2018 early by falling over the line for a nice four-pointer.
The first grade saw a slow start from the Sea Eagles, but they eventually got into the grind. A late try put some respect back into the score but even at a little under-strength, the Ghosts are still a formidable team. Macksville’s best was the easy-going Joe McKay, who was playing his second game in a little over 24 hours. Joe travelled to Wingham on Saturday representing Group 2 in a trial against Group 3. As a result of that match Joe was selected to play in the North Coast Dolphins Under 23 Representative side.
Macksville are equally proud of having Joe McKay representing the Sea Eagles and would like to congratulate him on his achievement.
The next Under 23 representative matches will be played at Macksville’s Allan Gillett Oval on May 5, with the North Coast Dolphins up against the Central Coast. Two games will be played with the Women’s Representative League Tag kicking off proceedings at 11am. The main game between the Under 23s rep sides will start at 12.05pm.
This weekend the Sea Eagles are up against the Roosters in the local derby in three grades at Coronation Oval. Eagles fans are encouraged to get along.
