The first round of pennants took place on Sunday with a mixed result. The club’s open division copped a hiding with a 4/1 loss while the division 3 team had a 4.5/0 .5 win – both matches were against Woolgoolga. Marli Loomes, just 12 years of age, played for the visitors and is one to watch after winning well on Sunday.
For Island Sunday it was the Syd Campton Memorial Day with Syd’s two sons on hand to help give out the prize pool. They were joined by Syd’s playing partner for many years, Val Last, who helped in the organising of the event quite some time ago.
Winners were Rodney Robertson and Linda Fuller with a score of 45, from Trevor Peck and Louise Ainsworth 41 points (who got the countback from Glenys Thompson and Phillip Woodgate). Picking up balls were Robert Bond and Heather Gray, Robin Robertson and Mavis Davis, Andrew and Jenny Johnston, and Urpo Ylinen and Henny Oldenhove. Thursday’s round will be a two person ambrose while on Saturday there will be another chance for the Top Gun Shot Out sponsored by Nambucca Leagues and Sports Club with a stableford event.
