Macksville’s Margaret Hoffman Davidson has been collecting wedding gowns for years and now has an astonishing collection of more than 60 wonders of tailored imagination.
“I began collecting the gowns in 2007, with the intention to recycle the fabric for dolls I was making, but that soon changed when a 1970s dress I soaked came out snow-white and sparkling,” Margaret said.
“Instead, collecting them became my focus … it is now more about conserving the history of fashion.
“Every bride has an outfit that she chose to wear for her day, it may be traditional, it may be casual or it may have been a garment from our everyday wardrobe.
“No matter the garment, the bride and her chosen attire for her special day, it is all history that I love to conserve.”
Margaret said many gowns have been purchased on e-bay, Australia and USA, others have been donated and many more have been discovered in second hand stores.
“Each new addition to my collection is special, I collect where possible, pictures and as much information about the wedding as possible.”
Her dream is to see them in a specially-dedicated museum … one day.

Margaret’s own skills with the needle are also being recognised locally, having taken out a number of prestigious awards in the Easter Quilt Challenge and Show, both this year and last.
