The Guardian News caught up with some of the players as they prepared to tee off this morning (Tuesday), Day Two of the event, and heard plenty of stories about the tough long course.
Feeling pretty chipper was Queanbeyan golfer Pauline Jeffery, who finished Day One two points off the leaders, on 79 gross.
“I don’t expect to do that again today but it was a lot of fun,” Pauline said.
She and her friends Pam Sassella and Fran Miller agreed the course was tough but in great condition.
“We have been made to feel very welcome … we even went for a roll-up at the bowling club yesterday,” Fran said.
“They really looked after us and we ended up being the cheer squad.”
Newcastle girls Sue Beentjes and Lucy Minehan said they were having a fantastic time.
“The condition of the course and the greens is great,” Lucy said.
“I played beautifully on Sunday in the sun but yesterday was a different matter. I hope to redeem myself today.”
RESULTS AFTER DAY ONE:
Wendy Johnstone came down from Coffs Harbour for the tournament.
“The course is a little heavy and there is not a much run as usual but in my opinion these are the best greens in the district,” Wendy said.
The Championship is played over 36-holes qualifying rounds, with the four best scratch scores qualifying for the Senior Championship Match play.
Round 1 – Monday – 18 holes stroke play
Round 2 – Tuesday – 18 holes stroke play
Match play – Semi Final – Wednesday
Match play – FINAL - Thursday
The presentation of the Women’s NSW Senior Championship will be on completion of play on Thursday.
