Enter Country music artist Aly Cook, who Vicki has supported with airplay on her show. Aly is determined to help get the community announcer to the red carpet and has set up a crowdfunding campaign to help Vicki’s family with the costs of attending the awards.
“It should be the time to celebrate, unfortunately Vicki has been quite unwell and it’s taken a toll financially on her family, who are unable to afford the trip to Sydney for the awards,” Aly said.
Since establishing her Thursday show at community station 2NVR in 2009, Vicki has been a stalwart support of the country music industry – often journeying up to Tamworth to host the Festival FM radio.
Her passion for community radio and country music have culminated in her nomination as community radio station Host of the Year at the Industry Observer Awards in Sydney on March 27.
An all-new event taking place at the Sydney Cricket Ground, The Industry Observer Awards are judged by a jury from the music industry. The Australasia-focused ceremony will recognise those that stand behind the artists and celebrate their genius, dedication and creativity.
“There is nothing like the feeling of doing something to make someone else's day brighter. Musicians from around the country so far have given a few dollars and we are slowing getting there to help Vicki.”
