The over 40’s match was washed out but the Nambucca Valley still qualify for the final finishing second on run rate without even playing a game.
The Final is set down for this Sunday at Ellem Oval in Grafton against last years winners Clarence River. It’s rematch from last year’s final with Nambucca Valley keen to get the winners medals this time around, play is set down to start at 10am.
Over 60s:
Over 60’s cricket came to Macksville on Sunday and Monday with the Coffs Harbour team taking on Central Coast on Sunday.
The Coffs Harbour team included a couple of locals in Noel Chapman and Geoff Hannah and name many locals will remember from the days of Urunga playing in the Nambucca Competition in John Leahy.
With showers coming through it was decided to play the game on the synthetic pitch at Donnelly Welsh and not Thistle Park. Great decision in the end as the game was stopped at least three times due to short heavy showers blowing over.
Central Coast batted first and the wicket was skidding and keeping low with the bit of rain on it. At one stage after 11 over they were 5/11 but recovered with a couple of good partnerships to manage all out for 93 in the 40th over. John Leahy with 2/7 off 6 overs and Noel “Panther” Chapman got himself a wicket as well.
The weather got a bit better for the Coffs Harbour innings but the outfield was still quite slow. Geoff Hannah made 11 opening the innings, but wickets fell consistently. The score was on 84 with two wickets in hand and 4 overs remaining they were in with a show but the last 2 wickets fell for just 4 runs and the Coffs Boys ended up 5 runs short of the total. It may have been low scoring but it was a great game of cricket played in great spirit.
The game on Monday was also played on Donnelly Welsh between Central Coast and Hastings. Results not in at time of publishing.
