Artists Claude Teyssier and Margrit Rickenbach say the old petrol station in Bowraville that has housed them for the last few years has been sold and must be vacated by Sunday, February 11.
“Over the last five years Claude has shared his expertise, building these lanterns, assisted by local artists, school groups and volunteers,” Margrit said.
“They are ephemeral pieces of art, however many feel these works of collective creativity should be preserved.
“Unfortunately this space is no longer available – the festivals who have used them have not wanted to take carriage of them nor the local chamber of commerce, a couple are going to individuals but the rest will go up in smoke unless someone takes them.”
The couple said, for them personally, they farewell the bamboo and paper works with a smile and a tear and are ready to move onto other projects … in Claude’s case, building a giant VW Beetle lantern for that group’s next spectacular.
Anyone wanting to take one or two or more lanterns, free-of-charge, can ring Margrit on 6564 7067 or email margritrickenbach@hotmail.com.
Claude says the sculptures will last up to 12 months outside in the elements!
You must be able to provide your own transport, and collect it before Sunday week.
