“He’s got the prettiest beetroot cheeks I’ve ever seen.”
Cr John Ainsworth was serendipitously presented with his 30 years’ service medal to council by Oxley MP Melinda Pavey, who was there to support the Bowraville community in their regional sporting infrastructure grant bid.
“John, your generosity, commitment and decency is self-evident and it has earned the respect of your community,” Mrs Pavey said.
“But it’s not just this Valley you’ve made an impact on, farmers have been well-represented far and wide because of you.
“You’re a giver, and an inspiration.”
Cr Ainsworth was unusually flummoxed as he got up to make a speech.
“It’s been a big commitment, but it’s been a great time and, ultimately, a worthwhile experience,” Cr Ainsworth said.
He reiterated that this would indeed be his last term in office.

Mayor Rhonda Hoban thanked the councillor for his guided wisdom over the years.
“We’ve all been very lucky here to take advantage of John’s extensive general knowledge from so many years of service," Cr Hoban said.
“Maybe we could still find a way to rope him into staying.”
