The roadside rupture happened outside Harriet’s Gourmet Provisions sending an impressive flood of water and debris coursing down along Princess St and around into McKay St.
Peter Shepherd captured the moment in this video:
Owner of Harriet’s, Mary Lawler, said it was just one of those things that happened.
“On Sunday we briefly had water views! And the silver lining is that we are getting a new footpath,” Mary said.
Nambucca Shire Council’s Manager Assets, Clint Fitzsummons, said the mains water pipe that burst caused major damage to the road and footpath.
“Temporary repairs of the road pavement are underway to restore pedestrian access,” Mr Fitzsummons said.
“The concrete repair to the footpath and kerb will be undertaken over the next two weeks and will be done in sections so that access to the shops is maintained.
“Contractors will then do a final road repair about one month after this, depending on weather and availability of the contractors.
