Mitre 10 owner Jason Southwell donates several thousands of dollars every year to the Macksville Christmas Carols.
“I just love doing it...it’s going to be every year, I’m locked in,” Jason said.
Today, Jason was presented with a plaque for his generous support by members of the Nambucca River Salvation Army who have hosted the carols for decades.
“That money goes towards sound hire and technicians, buying supplies like lollies to give out to the children, fireworks, and all the other ancillary costs of putting on a quality event,” Captain Steve Dormon said.
“Without [Jason’s] help it would be so much harder to do.
“We are also very grateful for the support of the local shire council who picks up the rubbish after the event for free.”
Mitre 10 is the sole sponsor of the carols, which Steve says he prefers in order to keep a community feel to the event.
Jason is keen to make next year’s Christmas celebrations even bigger and better than this year’s, and has been considering setting up a Christmas tree in-store and inviting Santa to come and visit.
“Obviously I’ve come from a small community as well, and when we bought the business, having a real focus on the community was key, in my heart, along with the Christian belief,” Jason said.
“And I believe we’ve got something to offer, and hopefully we can build on that going forward.”
