August 3: Local teacher Ms Eve Riches from Bowraville Central School was nominated to participate in The ‘Excellence in Hospitality Training’ – a five-day immersive experience for teachers of HSC-level hospitality courses.
August 3: Nambucca flyer Daniel Williams has added another chapter to his already impressive highlight reel, claiming the silver medal in the 2km 10 years boys race at the NSW Primary Schools Sport Association (PSSA) championships at Eastern Creek, Sydney.
August 10: There was movement at the station, for the word had got around, that the new Nambucca Heads service centre had started trade. Cars, trucks and caravans were lining up at the gates from early in the morning last Thursday despite the bowser opening from 2pm. The first customer at the pump was local Aaron Penfold returning from his butcher shop in Urunga.
August 17: Ten years ago Abi Group arrived in Macksville to set up a concrete batching plant in preparation for the Pacific Highway upgrade. That facility is now Australian Precast Solutions, is owned by Lendlease and has expanded to three production plants with more than 100 employees. And all three are in peak production, making concrete girders for the 107 bridges needed forthe Woolgoolga to Ballina stretch of the highway.
August 24: The fourth bridge of the Warrell Creek to Nambucca Heads highway upgrade is officially open. Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker officially removed the barriers of the new Rosewood Road bridge, granting locals from Warrell Creek and properties around Yarrahapinni a safe crossing over the new Pacific Highway.
August 31: A man was recorded breaking into the Nambucca Shire pound at 5.50am on Monday. He allegedly used bolt cutters to cut through the gates and release all seven dogs which were impounded there. CCTV footage of the incident was recorded and police are following up with a suspect.
