May 4: Nambucca Shire hosts the Foundation for Regional Development’s biennial summit where a program of ‘movers and shakers’ shared their knowledge with the 70 delegates and offering education and training in the fast-moving business world. Foundation CEO Peter Bailey said the shire was really punching above its weight as far as attracting business and job creation are concerned.

May 11: Joan’s Army stalwarts are kept busy cleaning up following an all too familiar scene after vandals cause chaos to planter boxes after a Saturday night in the main street of Macksville.
May 11: Valla Rural Fire Service captain Peter Brougham and two Nambucca Valley brigades who dealt with a string of horrific accidents on the Old Pacific Highway have received formal recognition of their service at a special service in Sydney.
May 11: The North Coast Regional League Finals were played at the Hastings Valley Netball Association on Sunday. Two teams from the Nambucca Valley Netball Association were in the play offs – the Under 17s (Division 3) and the Opens (Division 2). Under 17s coach Leanne Porter said the team went into the semi finals undefeated, and “handled it just as any coach would hope for”.
May 18: The future of the Nambucca Shire’s participation in the 2017 World Rally Championship could be called into question as the council seeks to recoup road damages in excess of $150,000.
May 18: Logging in known koala and yellow-bellied glider habitat in Buckra Bendinni State Forest has put shire conservationists at loggerheads with Forestry Corp NSW.
May 18: Michael Tarleton’s retirement from the real estate game spells the closure of McNeill’s Real Estate, one of Macksville’s institutions, which has served the community since 1911 and was bought by Michael from the late Mike Moran in 2006.
May 25: Confined to his chin-driven wheelchair after a horrific car accident changed his life in 2009, Dylan Welch gets involved in the P.A.R.T.Y program - Prevention of Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth, which is based in Royal North Shore Hospital. The program runs outreach courses in regional hospitals to expose kids to the consequences of risky behaviour as a way of helping to reduce it.
May 25: One of the smaller schools in the Nambucca Valley, Bowraville Central, turned the engineering world on its head with an against-the-odds triumph in an inter-school challenge run by the University of Newcastle.
