Darcy Habgood, playing off plus-2, put together a round of 68/36 to win A grade. Hopefully Darcy can hold this form thoughout this week as she takes on the best juniors on the Gold Coast competing in the Greg Norman Junior Classic.
Coming in runner-up for the grade was Bruce Berry (5 handicap) with 34 points.
For B grade no surprises as Uri Ylinen (16) amassed 39 points to run out winner over Neil Duffus (14) who followed his good form from the Genesis Competition where he ran sixth after the final played in Sydney last week. Some feat when you consider that over 100,000 contestants were involved from all over Australia,.
Taking out C grade was Michael Lee (29) after a round of 38. Geoff Rackham (21) came in runner up with 36 points. Others with good solid rounds were Warren Fuller 37, Dennis Ashton a 36, Alvin Rapley, Phil Shields and Steve Doherty all cards of 35 points. Pins on the day went to John Piggot (Urunga) at 3, David Rosser the jackpot lottery hole 5, Dirk Prummel at 7, Rod Robertson at 8, John Slade the pizza hole, Chris Thorndike at 15 and Uri Ylinen took home the money shot at 18.
Two eagles on the day – one to Darcy Habgood on the par 5 16th, and one to John Piggott on the third. Ball rundown went to 32 with nine to collect and they are Gary Tierney, Rob Coneybear, John Hopkins, Peter Farrell, Allen O’Brien, Graham Weary, Lyell Gregory, Colin Dunne and Trevor Peck. .
On Thursday Rodney Robertson (13) kept up his good form to lead home division 1 with 38 points, followed by Chris Thorndike (10) with 37 points. Just a day off his 88th birthday, Geoffrey Wilson put together a round of 42 points to take out division 2. Roy Louis (24) took the runners-up spot with 36 points.
Good scores to miss out on a voucher were Alex McKinnon (Massey Park), Paul Fox (Macksville), Kel McGoldrick, Denys Tobin, and Don Atkinson, all rounds of 36 points. Ball rundown went to 33 with just the one to collect and that is Les Mohr. Nearest the pins went to Paul Habgood, David Bird, Paul Ryan, Alan Cockburn, Uri Ylinen, Chris Thorndike and Neil Duffus.
This Saturday will be a 4BBB with hams and turkeys up for grabs courtesy of Greg McCoy and family who will sponsor.
