Ethan Davidson copped a nasty ball first up, hitting him and rolling onto the stumps. Jya Welsh came to the crease and punted one straight up in the air for a simple catch to have Star Hotel 2/0 after Travis Hayden's first over and the carnage didn't stop there with James Brodie getting wrapped on the pads right in front next over to have Star reeling at 3/0.
Joe Costa was at the crease and with the run of form he is in anything could happen and it did, with six of Joe's first eight scoring shots being boundaries. The 7th wicket to fall brought Nigel Wilbow to the crease in the 30th over and he and Joe put on a unbeaten 69-run stand to finish the innings with the total of 7/193. Joe Costa 107 not out and Nigel Wilbow 35 not out.
In reply, Peter Lee 60 and T Herbert 72 not out, put on 76 together to leave them 60 to win with five wickets remaining. With Herbert still at the crease and scoring freely he just needed batsmen to stay with him. Jya Welsh came into the attack and claimed three quick wickets to have Heads nine down with still 18 to win. Herbert and Alex Hull 6 not out got the runs and the win.
Thomas Barbour reports – Scotts Head vs Bowraville at Scotts. Bowra got off to a great start with James Murphy at the crease and a bit of fortune, making a great 68 before being caught by Jacob Pedrola.
The runs continued with Greg Brown getting 24 and Gary Smith making a handy 50. Bowra ended the innings 5/189.
Scotts Head came out all guns blazing with Ryan Gleeson hitting 18 off the first over, but with the opening bowling partnership of Eric Brown and Greg Brown doing the damage, Scotts were 5/86 at drinks. Scotts then reconsolidated with L Bennett making a much needed 47.
Scotts needed 35 off the remaining five overs, and up stepped a determined Martin Gleeson (30) pumping boundaries left and right and a firing young Jason Borthwick who got Scotts over the line 8/192 with five balls remaining.
Ricky Styles reports – Macksville Country Club vs Nambucca Hotel at Thistle Park. Country Club won the toss and elected to bat scoring 117 all out. Best with bat were Ossie Kinnear 52, Hayden Brown 17 and Kurt McCarthy 13.
Nambucca Hotel were 4/118 to get the result. Best batters for Hotel were Jack Ingham 37, J Allan 26 and Mick Townsend 18 not out.
