In fact in each of their eight matches – against much larger associations – the contest was a nail-biter.
With a win against St George, a draw with Parramatta and narrow defeats of just one point against several city teams, coaches Chris Trisley and Ray Fitzgerald could not have asked for more from their team and were thrilled with the way they pulled together and played for each other.
The tournament will prove a fantastic confidence builder for many of the younger players.
Full credit too to some of the ‘older heads’ in the quad who led with distinction.
As a squad, the Macksville Under 20s proved to themselves that they are highly competitive and can go the distance against any team in the State.
These boys should be extremely proud of their efforts and the old adage ‘a champion team’ certainly applies to this outstanding group of young men.
