A fast and furious storm swept through the Lions Park (Valla Reserve) on Friday evening just as the event was scheduled to start, leaving a trail of flattened tents and soggy children in its wake.
But noone was about to give up on an event that had been months in the planning; Valla was determined to have a merry Christmas singalong.
The clouds cleared and the show went on.
Members of the Valla Beach Community Association dutifully manned the sausage sizzle, while the Nambucca District Band, Valla Voices and volunteers from the Bowraville Theatre Singers led the carols.
A very special white-bearded guest joined in on the proceedings later in the night, bringing gifts of sugar-fuelled highs to the children in attendance, and taking last minute requests for those on the ‘nice’ list.
A fire-twirling performance and a flurry of fireworks capped off an exciting evening out in the Valley.
Please enjoy a collection of highlights from the night with photos contributed by the talented Amanda Williams alongside those taken by Guardian News journalist Mel Davis.
