Back in September the local news outlet owned by Warwick and Darlene Lean was where one lucky resident bought the ticket for a $25 million win, the biggest prize won in NSW.
Staff member Katie Woodland sold the ticket and says she has been in demand as the magic ticket seller ever since.
“I know the guy who won – I served him and when he didn’t return the next day I just had this gut feeling,” Katie said.
“And the next day we heard he’s won. It’s really good for the town.”
It’s also been really good for business, with Warwick and Darlene reporting a marked boost in sales, especially of the Powerhit 40 tickets, which is what the winner had bought.
“We’d just finished the upgrade with the new carpet and the new air-conditioning and I said now we needed a big winning ticket … and it happened!” Darlene laughed.
“A few weeks prior to that we also had another client who had a healthy win on a Powerhit and one of the syndicates has had a good year.”
Warwick said that the new online side of the business is also going well.
“We’ve been working hard on developing the business in new ways and our online sales have really taken off,” Warwick said.
Statistics about the New South Wales’ Lotto hotspots were published today and revealed that generally people purchasing their lottery tickets in Southern Sydney and in the Hunter and Central Coast region were the most fortunate in 2017!
During the past 12 months, between 1 December 2016 and 30 November 2017, New South Wales lottery players enjoyed 117 division one prizes and pocketed more than $257.8 million in division one prize money.
New South Wales had the second highest number of division one wins nationally during the 12 month period, after Victoria, and had Australia’s second highest amount of division one prizemoney, after Queensland. This was helped by the fact that some of the country’s biggest jackpots during this time – including a Powerball prize of $50 million – landed in New South Wales.
NSW Lotteries spokesperson Matt Hart said a total of 77 millionaires were created across New South Wales during the 12 month period – the most of any Australian state and territory.
“2017 will long be remembered by many as a year of big wins for lottery players across New South Wales. From truck drivers to teachers, retirees to retail workers, each division one winner had a unique story to tell about what their windfall meant to them and their loved ones,” he said.
The highly anticipated release of Australia’s 2017 Lotto Hotspots comes as the countdown begins to the $30 Million Megadraw on 30 December 2017!
Imagine starting the New Year as a newly-minted millionaire!
