The centre is staffed by an enthusiastic band of locals and with summer season upon us they would certainly welcome more people to join their team. Four hour shifts maybe once a week, fortnightly or whatever suits is all that is required.
The VIC provides a variety of information such as available accommodation, things to do and see, local services, free maps, as well as promoting the valley and answering questions about travel to other destinations. They encourage people who are just passing to stopfor a break, visit our various lookouts, the beaches (Shelley Beach is recognised as one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia) and take the opportunity to appreciate what a magnificent area this is.
Letters to the Guardian earlier in the year expressed concern the VIC could close and rumours persist. People might be unaware that Lifetime Connect Inc. stepped into the breach when Council declined to continue to fund a paid employee to run the VIC.
The Centre is now staffed totally by volunteers and funded by Lifetime Connect with assistance from Nambucca Valley Tourism Association. As well as information there are local products and souvenirs for sale, all proving popular for Christmas gifts.
Nambucca Shire Council continues to fund and support tourism by marketing and promoting the Valley. It provides regular updates on the website, so those who rely on the internet for information can find out what is happening in the Shire.
With the by-pass due for completion by 2020 I’m sure Nambucca Heads will continue to enjoy its status as a splendid spot to live and visit with its own special charm and appeal.
