A woman reported her dog was attacked by a white Staffordshire Bull Terrier with light tan patches, resulting in serious injuries to her dog.
The owner of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was approximately 200 metres away in a red Toyota 4WD ute with a driver’s side snorkel. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier ran back to the ute and the owner quickly drove off without providing any assistance.
Council has been unable to locate the offending dog or its owner, however there are reports they do frequent the area. With the potential for a repeat attack the council is seeking assistance from the public in their investigations.
If you have any information please contact Councils Manager Development and Environment on 65682555 or council@nambucca.nsw.gov.au.
The council said dog attacks result in significant physical, psychological, and financial costs to the community.
“The majority of dog attacks are the result of dogs not being under effective control and escaping from their yards or enclosures,” a council spokesperson said.
“All dog owners must take all reasonable precautions to prevent their dog from escaping. Under the Companion Animals Act 1998, a dog owner is liable for damages associated with an attack on a person or another animal. Furthermore, if a dog is in a public place and not under the effective control of some competent person by means of an adequate leash, the dog can be impounded and the owner fined.”
