This saw the 10 qualifiers fighting out for the first prize – with one player to drop out after each of the nine holes of the final.
Cash incentives made the players a little nervous. Fighting out the last hole was Peter Moxon and Dennis Ashton, with both players trying their best to lose the game on the difficult par 4 ninth hole.
Peter holed a difficult putt to finally walk away with the major prize money.
On Saturday two competitions were run in a bid to cater for as many people as possible, with the presentation day to follow the second comp.
Winner of the early 6.30am hit off was John Nebauer for division one, playing off a handicap of 12. John took the voucher with 37 points from Paul Ryan (11 handicap) 35.
In division 2 Dennis Ashton (20) posted a 43-point score, a follow up from his good form in Canberra playing in the left handers tournament that attracted players from around the world. Chasing second place, Roy Louis (24) carded a 36.
For the later starters John Starr (16) had a round of 42 points with John Kelly (16) finding form to post a 38.
Showing rare form, Graham Cass (22) had a great first nine with a wipe and 23 points, recording a total of 40 to get the win from Donny Wills (31) after amassing 37 stableford points as did Noel Gaddes and Garry Beggs, Don with the better countback.
Pins went to Alvin Rapley at the 3rd, Kevin Mulhall took out the 5th jackpot hole as well as the pizza on 13, Rob Coneybeare picked up 7 and 8 with Chris Tinson collecting at the 15th.
At the 18th money shot hole, Trevor Peter took the honour.
Ball rundown for the two competitions went to 35 points and five players will collect and they are Paul Ryan, Steve Frost, Rod Robertson, Chris Thorndike< and Greg Smith.
Last Thursday Phil Mander (12) put together a round of 39 to put himself in the top position for division 1. Uri Ylinen (16) was runner-up with 38 points. A surprise winner in division 2 was Allan Cosgrove (32) with a round of 42 points.
Andrew Johnston (20) 37 points came in runner-up. Other players to record good rounds were Bruce Berry 37, Chis Thorndike, Walter Bortoletto and Steve Misdale (Palm Beach) likewise.
Ball rundown went to 34 points with Heather Gray, Dave Mattacott Steve Frost and Steve Doherty all to collect.
Pins for the round went to Greg Smith, Kerry McCoy, Tim Standing, Phil Mander the pizza, Bruce Berry at 15 and Paul McElhinney got the money shot wrapped up.
On Thursday we expect a good turnout for Steve Barnes’ last day as the professional at Nambucca, Steve will sponsor the day as we bid him goodbye and wish him well in his future endeavours. A big thank you from the club’s members and players from around the area to Steve and his family.
Sunday will be the final Island Sunday for the year and the club would like to see a great turnout for the Christmas break-up sponsored by the McCanns, Coral and Geoff, along with Deidre Byrne. Those attending should supply a Christmas present to the value of no more than $5 in the sex they represent.
