On November 21, Macksville High School held a White Ribbon Assembly to raise awareness around Breaking the Silence, Australia’s campaign to prevent men’s violence against women.
In the last 12 months there has been over 60 deaths and thousands injured, a very sad statistic.
All violence is horrific, and we need to take a strong stand to help stop the impact in our community.
This year, I asked students Adam Nowland and Jiminka Laow to help run the assembly, which they were honoured to do.
They invited the whole school to take the White Ribbon oath, which is “I will stand up, speak out and act to prevent men’s violence against women”.
A white ribbon was presented to each student upon exiting the stadium, these ribbons were donated by the Principal, Erica Lyne.
Personally, I think it is humbling to know that all Macksville High students within this community have made a stand toward ending violence in this powerful demonstration.
