A diagnosis of a child with diabetes impacts not only on the child but also on their parents and siblings.
The “Kids with Diabetes Fun Day” allows kids with diabetes and their parents to meet in a fun-filled environment to network and share their experiences.
The day was hosted by the Macksville Lions Club with funding coming from a number of other clubs in the region.
Last year was the centenary year for Lions International, and Diabetes Health was a Lions International Centennial Service Challenge.
The family day was planned around World Diabetes Day on November 14.
The event was attended by the Lions District Governor, John Davis, and his wife Rosalie, who made a special trip to Coffs Harbour from Tamworth.
The day would not have been a success without the assistance the Big Banana and the staff from the Diabetes Education Clinic at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus who advertised the day to their clients.
The feedback from the children and their parents was very positive and it is hoped that the Lions will be able to fund similar events in the future.
