Paul Kelly plays Coffs | gallery

Paul Kelly played Coffs Harbour on Sunday night as part of a massive tour of Australia and New Zealand taking in both metro and regional centres.

The tour celebrates his new album Life Is Fine, which debuted at the top of the ARIA album chart.

Paul Kelly has recorded over 21 studio albums as well as film soundtracks (Lantana and Jindabyne) and two live albums, in a career spanning more than 30 years. He was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1997.

In Life Is Fine there are songs with an R&B groove like the opener, ‘Rising Moon’, jumping rockers like ‘Firewood and Candles’ and ‘Rock Out on the Sea’ and fun songs like ‘Leah: The Sequel’. The humorous tunes contrast with another of Kelly’s exquisite songs of regret, ‘Letters in the Rain’, and the rich imagery at the heart of ‘Petrichor’.

Kelly was joined at the North Coast Regional Botanic Gardens in Coffs Harbour by special guests Steve Earle and Middle Kids.

Professional photographer Bruce Jacups from Bellingen was there, working hard with his camera, taking pix of all three bands and some of the crowd as well.
