Lifeline For Lifeline – today, November 1, is a national day to give.
Lifeline calls on Australians to donate to the leading crisis support and suicide prevention service and help it answer the one million requests for help received annually.
Lifeline Australia Chairman John Brogden said the fundraising campaign sends the message that ‘you don’t have to wear something, do without something, make something, sell something or run somewhere… all you have to do is give’.
“With a call to Lifeline’s 24/7 crisis support services received every 30 seconds, Lifeline for Lifeline is asking Australians to donate so that no request for help goes unanswered,” Mr Brogden said.
“We don’t have the resources to answer every call immediately, which is particularly heartbreaking when you consider the enormous strength and courage it takes for someone to reach out when they’re struggling.
“So, this campaign is about making sure people in crisis or thinking about suicide never have to be alone. We’re asking Australians to dig deep today and donate to Lifeline.
“Every Australian can help save a life. All you have to do is give.
“Lifeline is not 100 per cent Government funded and we rely on community support to do the job.
“It costs $26 to fund one call with one of our Crisis Supporters. That $26 – which goes towards costs like recruitment, training, equipment and supervision – can make a profound difference.
“It can save friends, families and whole communities the heartache of losing someone to suicide.”
