With well over 60 highly competitive teams battling it out it across the age divisions it became a team bonding exercise and a great gauge for the coaching staff.
It also gave newer players a taste of the strong competition and much faster pace of play they can expect come December. And neither team disappointed.
Both young teams, they supported each other, lifting to another level and working together to rattle their competition, displaying tenacity and strength beyond their years and impeccable sportsmanship that was commended by several referees.
The girls team continues to impress. Progressing through the pool games, convincingly winning their quarter final before going down in an entertaining and hard fought semi final to a formidable Nelson Bay outfit. Another outstanding result for our girls.
The boys improvement during the weekend was immense, they progressed through tight pool games to a quarter final.
Unfortunately they were defeated by a dynamic Central Coast Dolphins unit in a loud and expeditious game that saw their strength and character shine.
Coaches and managers were incredibly proud of the effort put in by all of their players and thankful to our ever faithful band of parents and supporters.
Meanwhile, the local committee has been in overdrive and Macksville Park will become a hive of activity once again as the summer competition sees a maximum number of teams of all ages taking part and battling it out on a Thursday afternoon and evening.
A bit of history:
Touch football, is derived from the two rugby codes – League and Union - both of which use a form of Touch for training purposes.
It was in 1968 that the first recognised competition took place with the formation of the South Sydney Touch Football Association at Pioneer Park, Malabar.
