SEASON OPENS: Paul Murphy from Macksville Carpet Court with the refurbished surf boat at the Scotts Head ramp

The 2017-18 patrol and competition season for the Macksville-Scotts Head SLSC opened last weekend with the commencement of the school holidays.

A strong northerly wind pushed a lot of water into the southern corner of the main beach creating a number of rips and resulting in several rescues of bathers being swept out to sea.

The Club’s competition surf boat has had its annual winter refurbishment including repaint courtesy of new sponsor Macksville Carpet Court.

Opinion is mixed as to the old, bald male surfer motif at the front of the boat but it does have a passing resemblance to a number of the Club’s rowers.

Volunteer surf lifesavers will be patrolling NSW beaches each weekend and public holiday from now until Sunday, April 29, 2018. Total coastal drownings last year numbered 31, down from a record-high of 53 the previous year.
