The Nambucca Valley Christian Community School (NVCCS) is committed to making sure that the C-Build team who have finished constructing Stage 3 of the school’s build have not toiled needlessly.
“We truly see ourselves as a lighthouse in this community,” NVCCS principal Jeff Allen said.
The construction includes a new library, conversion of the existing library into extra primary classrooms and expansion of the administration building.
Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey visited the school last Friday to officially open the $1.465 million facilities.
The state government provided $700,000, with the school raising the funds for the balance of the project.
Earlier this year Mrs Pavey also announced that state government approval had been given for an additional $850 000 project (with government funding of $550,000) to build a hospitality and food technology space, a second science room, additional amenities, and a storage room.
Mrs Pavey was serenaded by the school’s talented music groups before cutting the ribbon, and inspecting progress on Stage 4.
“This is a great milestone for a terrific school, which has gone from strength to strength as it has gone through its many stages of growth,” Mrs Pavey said.
“The school board and principal have been a driving force during the different stages of expansions of the school’s buildings which began in 2012. Their leadership, combined with support from the Nambucca Valley community and all levels of governments, have facilitated the expansion of its enrolments from 46 in 2012 to 226 in 2017.
“Nambucca Valley’s only private secondary school will have its first senior students commencing their HSC exams in the fourth term of 2017.”
Chairman of the board Darryl Spriggs led a prayer not just for current students, but for the many thousands to come through these new classrooms.
“I wanted to say that this was a ‘golden age’ for the school, but I really believe that this is a blessed age—we’ve been so blessed,” Mr Spriggs said.
Mayor Rhonda Hoban also attended the auspicious occasion despite convalescing from recent surgery.
“I wasn’t going to miss it,” Mayor Hoban said.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to watch this school grow.
“One thing I notice about the students from this school is their strength of character.”
Principal Jeff Allen, the school board and its community have worked with all three levels of government to plan and implement the new facilities needed for the Nambucca Valley’s only K-12 private school.
“Today is a special day to celebrate as a community and say thank you to Mrs Pavey and our local Mayor Rhonda Hoban for their support.” Mr Allen said.
