THE U17 Nambucca Valley Netball Association representative team for the State Age took a long time to be finalised due to withdrawals, injuries and late recruitments.
They were extremely unlucky not to have finished further up the ladder by the end of day three, after 20 rounds of netball, but sixth position was a fantastic achievement.
The girls drew with Hastings, the ultimate winners, and losses of only two or three goals to some of the teams that finished ahead of them.
The defence end, Brittney Edwards, Hunter Flanders, Pyper-Rae Wagstaff and Zoe Baxter pulled off some amazing intercepts and rebounds and were up against some giant competition but their teamwork and trust in one another was inspirational.
The shooters, Mikaela Donovan, Jessica Seymour and Brittney Edwards were magical to watch the way they anticipated one another’s movements around the circle and their statistics were consistently above 75 per cent over the three days of competition.
The centre court players, Xanthe Ronan, Carly Ahearn, Carla Silvia, Chelsey Pulman and Zoe Baxter worked extremely hard causing many defensive turnovers and moving the ball to the shooters, working into spaces and maintaining control.
The girls were always respectful to one another, the opposition, the umpires and the game of netball, while the team’s supporters were also on point.
