Now however, due to dwindling numbers, the group has decided to call it a day and has now disbanded its formal legal structure.
Part of the process was the distribution of the funds in its kitty, totalling $25,000, which have now been given to five worthy local charities.
Over the last couple of months Macskville District Hospital, Westpac Helicopter, Nambucca Valley Dialysis, the Cancer Support Group and the Royal Flying Doctor Service have all received $5200.
Retiring president Betty Merrifield said the money had been raised over the years through raffles, cake stalls and trading tables.
“We used it to set everything up in the hall for our members – we had darts and cards and indoor bowling … it was all there for anybody to use,” Betty said.
“We ran social events and supported community projects. Any other money was then invested and this is the final result of all our efforts.”
She said the group had now consolidated into a Mixed Senior Bowls group to provide an outlet for remaining members.
“This has taken the pressure off trying to sustain a formal organisation – an informal committee will now exist for social events and to welcome new members.”
On behalf of the executive, Betty thanked “all the senior citizens who held formal positions on committees over the years, helping to raise funds and build the strong seniors’ foundation that exists in the community”.
