CONGRATULATIONS go to the Nambucca Valley Netball Association 13 years representative team on a successful campaign at the State Championships.
After winning Division 3 in 2016, the team was elevated to Division 2 – a competitive, skilful division.
After day one the team had won all six of their matches and were in first position.
Day two saw three losses from their six matches, leaving them in third place.
On the final day the girls won four of their six outings, seeing them finish equal 5th out of 18 teams.
Five losses out of 18 matches over three days is an outstanding effort.- especially as most of the losses were by just one or two goals.
Orange, who eventually won the division, lost three matches overall and one of those losses was to Nambucca Valley.
All players played amazing netball and should be proud. Every match had the pressure and intensity of a grand final and the girls displayed a maturity and composure way beyond their years and experience.
The shooters Ellie Spain and Wulaaran Walker withstood immense pressure and tough, physical defence to shoot brilliantly. The centre court players of Brin Trisley, India Stephens, Abby Baxter and Arrin Stirrat-Black caused many turnovers with exciting attacking and defending. Eden Kenny, India Flanders and Lily Bartlett worked tirelessly in the defensive circle and were able to send the ball back down to the attacking end during many crucial times on court.
A highlight for the girls was the experience of playing an international team (Fiji, an invitational side, played in division 2). It was an amazing experience for a group of 13-year-old girls to have the opportunity to play netball against a team from another country who had a different style of play.
