SATURDAY’S event at The Island Golf Course was the men’s foursomes championships over 27 holes (and an 18-hole stableford for those for keen on the foursomes).

Winners in the men’s foursomes championships for 2017 were the pairing of Peter Farrell and Bruce Berry after they had a round of 10 double-bogeys, but still good enough to scrape home with a total of 130. Not too far behind was Phil Mander and Jason Belt with 131 gross. They were followed in by Allan O’Brien and Dave Rosser with a round of 132 to get the countback from Warren Fuller and Paul McElhinney.
Best nett score was Rodney Robertson and Kerry McCoy with 10.25 after a round of 138 gross and a handicap of 27.75. Picking up the second place in the nett, Warren Fuller and Paul McElhinney 132/112.50 with Jason Belt and Phil Mander third on 131/113.
In the stableford, Peter Delaney (16 handicap) had 35 to take out division 1 from John Starr (15) on 33. In division 2 Walter Bortoletto (24) came up with a round of 39 points that would please him no end. Got to feel for Ronny Cook (24), another runner’s up voucher after a countback with 39 points.
Ball rundown went to 32 with four players to collect and they are Greg McCoy, Christopher Taylor (Hawks Nest), Ron Lapin and John Nebauer.
Pins went to Dale Hansen at 3, Scott Burley at 5, Rob Coneybeare at 7, James Barrie at 8, Noel Gaddes took out the pizza at 13, Greg McCoy won Stu’s ball at 15, and Paddy Byrne made his day a whole lot better with the money shot at 18.
With the ladies from CNC taking over the course during the week the men’s medley stableford was played on Friday with 60 taking part. Paul Ryan (11) put together a round of 40 points to take out division 1. Getting home next with a round of 37 points was Alan Cockburn (10), who put together 37 points.
Division 2 was taken out by Robyn Jones (41) with a score of 39 points. Good to see Garry Tierney (22) collect a voucher after a round of 38 points. Ball round down went to 33 with just the one to collect and that is Kerry McCoy.
Nearest the pins went to Greg Smith at Sladies hole at 3, Garry Johnstone took out the 5th as well as the pizza at 13, Paul Ryan took 7 as well as 15, while Trevor Hopkins won the money shot.
Monday’s nine-hole event for men and women was won by Greg Smith 18 points and Heather Gray 16 points. Kaye McGoldrick put together 15 points. Balls also went to Kerry Naylor, Lesley Buxton, Lillian Lurkin, Garry Roach and ‘Smiffy’.
This Saturday will be a 4BBB and on River Sunday Bernie Dugdale has sponsored an American fourball event so get yourself down while the weather lasts.
