An idea that bounced into the arena some years ago, has now hit its mark with the completion of the new Nambucca Heads Tennis Club clubhouse.
Keen club member John Tait is one of those who has pushed sand and gravel to bring the much-needed facility to life.
“Talks first started with the council in 2014 … we got some small grants including one from the RSL but the clincher was the loan we got from the council,” John said.
“I remember the mayor saying she didn’t mind putting funds into something that people have worked hard to achieve for the community and visitors.”
John said the new space was light and bright and a vast improvement on the previous ‘gloomy’ facility, which was squeezed between the public toilets.
“It was known as the ‘shabbiest clubhouse on the Mid North Coast circuit’ … everyone said how awful it was!
“We now have a wheel-chair accessible clubhouse with a new kitchen and a safe haven for children.”
The opening is on Saturday, 3pm, with camaraderie and free tennis.
The club also wishes to thank those generous local businesses that supplied materials at a reduced rate.
