High school student Molly Langley is more aware of this than most.
Last year Molly Langley travelled to Fiji with mum Maxine to volunteer at Drasa Public School, taking boxes of educational resources.
The trip opened Molly’s eyes to the disparity between educational standards of Australian and Fijian schools.
This year Molly is determined to help raise the conditions and standards of more disadvantaged schools, helping to pull them out of poverty.
During the September school holidays Molly will be travelling to Fiji to volunteer.
She has already financed her own airline ticket and is excited to be taking English teacher Ellie Dennis on the adventure.
The pair will homestay with a local Fijian Teacher.
They hope to collect as many educational resources as they can to help improve the lives of these children.
“You don’t realise the impact a packet of coloured pencils can make on a child’s life,” Molly said.
She will be taking numerous hygiene products and toothbrushes to the students to keep at school, as most students from the villages do not even own their own toothbrush.
They are hoping the Nambucca community could assist in their project to help improve the education of underprivileged children.
Molly has already received and is grateful for a number of donations from local organisations including $200 and stationery supplies from Nambucca High and St Patrick’s Primary students, and All Office and Business Supplies Coffs Harbour; toothbrushes and paste from Nambucca Dental Surgery; hygiene products from Dean Holmes- Group 1 Distributors; pizzas for a fundraiser from Steve at Pizza This Pizza That.
Any financial donations or contribution of stationery or educational resources would be greatly appreciated.
All donations can be made to Helloworld Nambucca Heads before September.
