Since the 2015 election to April 2017, more than 58,000 jobs have been created in regional NSW – a 40 per cent of all jobs created in NSW in that period.
The data also showed that regional NSW is outstripping other States in job creation – almost triple the entire number of jobs created in WA, SA and Tasmania combined.
Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the figures showed that regional NSW is playing a momentous role in the State’s economic success.
“The economic progress we’re seeing in regional NSW continues to amaze,” Mr Perrottet said.
“There’s no question that the NSW economy is leading the other States, but it is astonishing to see that regional NSW is adding more jobs than three whole states combined.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW, John Barilaro, said the Government is committed to building stronger businesses and creating more jobs in regional NSW.
“The NSW Government is backing small businesses across the State and in return we are seeing more prosperous economies and more jobs in regional areas,” Mr Barilaro said.
Jobs growth in regions in Greater Sydney has also been strong.
Over the past 12 months, Western Sydney added 30,900 jobs (up 2.5 per cent), there were 13,000 jobs created on the Mid-North Coast (up 15.4 percent) and Newcastle saw jobs rise more than 2,000 (up 1.2 percent).
The results come off the back of data released last week showing NSW has had the lowest unemployment rate of any State for 23 consecutive months.
The unemployment rate in NSW (4.7 per cent) is the lowest it has been since 2012.
