In the men’s, Dean Holmes took out first place with his nice bream of 31cm, while Dave Sheppard took out the tailor section with a great fish at 1.7kg.
In the ladies, Elaine Sheppard won with a tailor at 1.4kg and a nice bream weighing in at 490gm. Elaine also won the mystery fish and $20 with her flathead, just beating husband, Dave.
Once again, the bass section was taken away by Dave Whalen – submitting five nice fish up to 43cm, with Luke Clowe and father Dan only catching one fish each on the day.
Bass season is now closed until September.
The members’ draw didn’t go off (hard luck, Mick Sheppard) so this now jackpots to $100.
The May competition will be from the 26th to the 28th, with the target species being bream and jewfish.
With only two comps left until the end of year, and low scores on our new leader board (many thanks to Frog for his fantastic effort), it’s not impossible to take out the comp.
Dave Marriott Memorial Pool
The second pool comp in Dave’s memory was played out last weekend at the Valla Beach Tavern with the jam session also in full swing.
Thank you to all who entered the comp and made it a huge success. Prize money was total entry fees plus $50 donated by the tavern and another $50 donated by the fishing club.
It was a great competition and we are pleased to announce Nat Burke as the winner for the 2017 honour.
Nat’s name will now go on the trophy that is housed on the bar at the tavern.

Fishing huts
The NSW Government has announced a unique initiative to develop wilderness fishing opportunities via an eco-hut program.
The initiative involves the establishment of remote ‘eco-fishing huts’ in national parks and other areas across the State.
