Funded by Transport NSW and run by Coffs, Bellingen and Nambucca Community Transport (CBNCT), the program will see a dedicated service co-ordinator on the ground in town plus two more drivers and a mobile office.

Community Trasnport board member Carrolline Rhoades said there was no question the service was badly needed.

“In terms of transport, this community is really isolated,” Carrolline said.

“Not only is this wonderful because it helps residents get to appointments but it also allows for more social contact and I passionately believe in the importance of that.”

Valma Jarrett is already in the drivers seat when it comes to co-ordinating the program.

“We are only just getting started but I plan to organise outings for small groups such as young mothers and their kids … I know what it is like to be stuck in Bowra without being able to go anywhere,” Valma said. 

“Excursions for families out of the Valley, to Coffs or Kempsey, for example plus there are also events like NAIDOC and the Aboriginal Knockout in Sydney.

“There will be a small fee but it will be very affordable.”

Young mother, Zaylia Jarrett, said the new service would make a huge difference for her.

“I’ve got no licence or access to a car – this means I can get to appointments and take the kids on outings,” Zaylia said.

The service is open to all Bowraville residents.

And to keep the service meeting community needs, everyone is invited to come along to monthly meetings and be involved.
