Nambucca Shire Council has been counting the cost of the recent flood and has lodged an initial application with the NSW Government in the hope the event will be declared a disaster, hence unlocking a pool of grant funds to help cover the cost of repairs.
The mayor Rhonda Hoban said damage to roads and culverts and bridges around the shire easily met the $250,000 threshold.
“It could actually be as much as $1 million,” Cr Hoban said.
“That does however depend on what sort of solutions the geotechnical reports suggest for both Gumma Rd and Riverside Dr in Nambucca Heads – they are our two biggest problems.
“There are sure to be a variety of solutions and prices and no matter what the NSW Government ultimately decides, repairs still have to be carried out.”
