Local graziers are hoping to raise a significant sum at Wednesday’s cattle auction to assist respected Macksville man Steve Wood, following a serious tractor accident.
Steve was working on his property at Congarinni when the tractor he was driving overturned and rolled down a steep embankment. Steve suffered severe spinal injuries.
In an effort to help, Jack Stanton of GJ Kennedy & Co and Steve Green have organised the ‘Steve Wood Muster’.
“We are seeking support from local farmers to donate a beast to the muster to be sold at the Macksville saleyards,” Jack said.
“We’ve already had quite a lot of interest, at this stage 11 people are wanting to donate cattle. We have also received some very generous cash donations.
“We’re keeping it open until the end of the month so the sales can be finalised, and those who have indicated their interest have time.”
A whole beast can be donated with the entire sale price going to supporting Steve or alternatively, owners can choose to donate a percentage of the profit from their sale. The donated cattle will be sold at 9am, first items on the sale list.
“G J Kennedy & Co will not be charging any commission on the sale of the Steve Wood Muster donated cattle – all proceeds will go to supporting Steve and his family throughout his rehabilitation process,” Jack said.
“The response has been very good and positive. On the day when we're selling them, we’ll have somebody there with a calculator and by the time we get to the last beast, we'll be able to announce how much we've raised.”
If you would like more information or to donate to the Steve Wood Muster, contact Jack Stanton on 0423 053 840 or Jesse Stanton on 0432 187 075.
“The GJ Kennedy & Co team and Steve Green look forward to the farming community's support to this worthy cause,” Jack said.
