Craig's appointment, which was announced by Foreign Affairs Minister, Julie Bishop, will see him based in Hanoi for the next three years together with his wife Kath and children Amelia (9), Harry (7) and Sophia (5).
Mr Chittick is currently First Assistant Secretary, South East Asia Mainland and Regional Division, based in Canberra.
In 2003, whilst on his first overseas posting and working in the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, as an Assistant Secretary, Craig was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for service through providing assistance and support to key Australian authorities and agencies in response to the Bali bombings.
He then served as Australia's Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur from 2009 to 2012, prior to being appointed Ambassador People Smuggling Issues.
Craig will take up his three year posting in Hanoi from July 1 together with wife Kath and children Amelia (9), Harry (7) and Sophia (5).
