The club donated $12,500 to Monroe Mills to help with renovations to her family home.
After a special hydrotherapy bath was donated and the extensive modifications to the bathroom to accommodate the bath completed, Monroe’s quality of life has improved greatly.
“The bathroom was finally finished a couple of weeks ago and we have been trialling it every night since, we have seen huge results already, Monroe is now sleeping through the night most nights, she’s nowhere near as itchy and her skin has never felt so soft,” Sarah said.
“We know this won’t cure her, but after three long years Monroe finally has the ability to feel a sense of comfort and I am forever grateful to every single person who has helped.
“I keep breaking into tears when I think of how generous and kind people are, and I feel so guilty that we need so much assistance.
“I hope that I can somehow give back to the community.”
This donation will go towards transforming the sunroom into a safe and comfortable area for Monroe to play and towards further medical costs and appropriate clothing.
Nambucca Heads Lions were impressed by the family’s efforts to help themselves and the support given by a number of local organisations and tradespeople.
The Lions applied for a compassionate grant through the national Australia Lions Foundation (ALF).
ALF generously provided $7500 and the Nambucca Heads Lions Club supported this with an additional $5000.
Lion John Mills who chaired this local project said that in today’s world there are a large number of needy individuals and families even in this community.
“Our local club support many organisations and people in our community but we can only give this compassionate support to very few,” he said.
“With the great assistance from the Australian Lions Foundation and the generous input of local tradespeople, we have been able to give young Monroe a strong helping hand.”
